Hi, I am newish to forum but never actually introduced myself, so here goes,
I am Edd and had a thing for RCZs when they first appeared, first one back about 2010, 1.6 156 petrol in Dolphin blue loved it. Got the chance to upgrade a few years later to a Gt 1.6 200 petrol in Grey….lovely car except at 6 months it got an engine and at 12months went bad again and was handed back to the dealer as they couldn’t fix it. Long standing Peugeot relationship broke.
Skip forward to about 2 years ago and me and my dear wife were discussing what car to get to replace the T Cross, wanted something fun, and a drivers car and decided we still liked and never got the RCZ thing out of the system so let’s get one. Lots of searching and we opted for a 2012 156 1.6 petrol with 48k on the clock and 12mnth warranty, bought just before Christmas 2022 and collected as soon as the dealer opened in Jan 2022. Nice car, needed a few little bits of attention just to finish off.
Picked up a matching alloy for the boot, not a fan of muck packs, and had them all refurbed (Coincidentally from the previous owner….cheeky).
Car was always ‘holding back’ and soon as the warranty expired at 52k I changed the timing chain, finding that it was not its original and had been timed ever so slightly wrongly.
When refitting I advanced the vanos slightly, really made a big positive difference, in take of and acceleration, much nicer to drive, and increased the economy (subject to right foot weight). During last years service I noticed an oil stain on the front of the block, oil filter housing or turbo pipe. Cat out of the way and re sealed the oil cooler come filter housing (it was it) and changed the turbo feed and return to braided full flow (just a wise step while the cat is off). Then with the naughty, fitted an uprated turbo core and took 1.5mm of the waste gate stroke. Now that made a very big difference to the performance.
This year leather electric seats fitted and the bumper repainted for stone chips and I am so loving this car. The handling and performance are fantastic, and I think it looks stunning. It’s hard to close the garage door on it, with another peak.
Maintenance wise since I owned it I service at 6k or annually whichever happens first. 2 abs rear sensors and reluctance rings (mount swollen with rust tilting sensor wore into rings) 2 ball joints, all four springs and an air pipe post filter to turbo. In the next 6months or so it’ll be getting a new clutch and flywheel.
With 62k on the clock, in my opinion, it still looks fabulous.
