Well, the replacement strip arrived from EBay - £49.99
I charged up my Dremel last night and thought I would tackle it this morning. I took my time, etching around the outside with a small drill point then very carefully used a cutting wheel. I removed all of the burrs and rough edges and soldered the factory wire back on.
I took my time placing it back together, using a few superglue spots and tape before I siliconed around the edges.
Well worth the time and effort I reckon
