Had a bit of a car clear out in the last couple that has seen 3 cars sold and 1 bought.

Started looking for a second car for myself - simply because I always run 2 cars and had narrowed choice down to either a Clio 197 or an Abarth 595 Competitizione

Always liked the RCZ, particularly the R and have ended up slapping a deposit down on a 2 owner, 18k mile car - hopefully driving it home on Thursday

I am in the industry so I am aware of some of the potential issues but I am not aware of a car that has ever been built that does not have some potential issues - eyes wide open and hoping its as good a car as it looks

Issues........hopefully you won't get any, however it's not the red R that had the 'missing' tail pipe on the os and the heatwrap over the turbocharger? damage to boot floor carpet? Has been commented on here if it is the one, had other 'mods' I think as well, suspension?; odd for such a low mileage car.........and was cheap for such an apparently low mileage example.

It is the red one

The HPI check (Car Verical so very comprehensive) is all clear, had the service history sent over to me and is very good. Had a n exhaust fitted which I will be putting back to single pipe each side if the deal goes ahead.

Had Bilsteins fitted last July

The Forge turbo wrap is a very common thing on many cars, Abarths in particular, do not really see a downside to it. The tatty boot floor carpet is an odd one but easily rectified

Modding a low mileage car - best not head over to the Alpine A110 forum then, many new / newish cars are modded. Mine has done 1600 miles and has had suspension geometry tweaked, Eibach springs and a tweak tot he engine / transmission map

If the car does not stack up when I go up to view / collect it then I won't hesitate to walk away

Cool...good luck...just looked at pictures the rear looks a different colour may be my monitor..also has new badges etc. Guess you won't know until you have a look especially on that off-side rear area.

My trusty paint depth measuring tool always goes with me whenever I'm looking at a car - to be honest I have not noticed anything iffy on the pics but there is no substitute for actually seeing a car in the metal

I have no issues with mods as long as they can be reversed and if they use good quality components - Forge and Bilstein on this car are hardly Ebay special kind of parts - jury is out on the exhaust and potential rectification queries have already been made (Longlife and John Ashley exhausts)

Hi Andy. Welcome along here too.

I am not sure about that car. I'm sure you'll give it a good going over in person before deciding.

Did the garage send you a walk around video?

The R has Bilstein suspension as standard. The car does look to be sitting a little lower than normal. It is coilovers?

I zoomed in on the badge on the boot. It says PR Development track day specialists.

The rear tyres look like semi slicks.

The roof arches look tired.

The tyre warning light is on.

Zooming in to the edges of the front wings at the side skirts, it's either dirt or rust. Stones do chip there and there has been many with rust there. I wouldn't expect it in 18,000 miles.

All sorts of alarm bells now starting to ring. Just noticed on the Car Vertical check - its showing a 3rd owner who bought it in April 2023 - could this tie in with it being used as a track day car

I don't want to sound overly pessimistic, but I'd rather see you get a good one.

If an owner is keeping the mileage low on an R, I don't see it also being used as a track day car.

Is the car far from you? A lot of effort to go and view in person?

I don't use Facebook, but there is a RCZ Facebook group. Maybe someone on there will know this car.

Its a 3 - 4 hour round trip but to be honest its just not sitting right with me - back to the drawing board I think

Hi mate, don’t want to be negative but that R looks like it could have been a track day school car, suspiciously low mileage, worn brakes and semi slick tyres, perhaps lowered slightly as well.

i May be totally wrong so apologies if I am, good luck!

Read through the reviews of the car dealer selling; some good reviews receives 3.9*'s but they also mention dodgy MoTs, mileage issues, service history issues, warranty issues etc. Be careful with CarVertical conflicting reviews about their accuracy and vehicle Cat reporting.

Thought I would bring this to a close. Called them this morning and raised my concerns, did not want to get confrontational, simply stated that I have some concerns about the car, that it will be fine for someone else but its not the car for me and would like my deposit refunded.

They did not object but proof of the pudding is whether it will be returned - fully protected under distance selling regulations but did not bandy that around, want to give them the chance to sort it without it getting unpleasant

I think it was the right decision Andy. I'd still have hung on for a bit for another R. I see you've gone with a Mégane RS now.

The garage has removed all the pictures that highlight the issues pointed out on that R. Including the shot that you could make out the rear tyres were semi slicks by looking very closely.

Are they going to rectify all the issues, or are they intentionally trying to cover things up?

Is it full Bilstein suspension Kerr, by that I mean shocks and springs, thought they will built in house by Peugeot sport?

found this 'Peugeot Sport has taken a completely new route with the RCZ’s chassis, which has undergone significant work to make the drive more engaging. The bespoke dampers are built in-house, harking back to the glory days of Peugeot’s finest cars. There have been changes to camber and toe-in angle, and the track is wider too. This trio of tweaks serve to vastly improve grip, and along with aerodynamic upgrades such as the fixed rear spoiler (in place of the hidden electric one on the regular RCZ) they really help to stabilise the car through faster corners.’

That is exactly what I have Flanners in some literature I have, question is do we take it to mean that its a Peugeot product or something else developed in conjunction with Bilstein.
