I wonder how deep a curbed alloy has to be before it gets through any protective coating

My biggest fear is that dreaded flashing blue light coming up in the rear view mirror & I've got to mount the kerb to get out the wayApparently my wife says there is a technique to mounting the kerb without scuffing the alloy, hit it slowly & with the wheels turned head on to the kerb so the tryes takes the impact.
This is of absolutely NO comfort to me whats so ever, & I'm preying that when 'IT' happens, it's her who does it not me... little Miss Cocky!!! :?

It was either let the van on my side of the road take the side of my car off or move over and risk curbing my alloy! I hate stupid White van men!!!! I suppose it gives me an excuse to have them done black though!

I think I have met the same White van man, I was in right hand lane, going round a round-a-bout, when "white van man" decided the left hand lane wasnt wide enough for him, so moved over to straddle both lanes. My options (like you) was to allow his van to "modify" my nearside or move over. I took the second option and "kissed" the inside of the round-a-bout. White van man buggers off leaving me with BOTH (YES BOTH) offside wheels nicely kerbed :x  :x
