I wonder how deep a curbed alloy has to be before it gets through any protective coating

I like 'Clubs', but this is 1 club I hope I NEVER join.............no doubt I will at some point though.

My biggest fear is that dreaded flashing blue light coming up in the rear view mirror & I've got to mount the kerb to get out the way  Apparently my wife says there is a technique to mounting the kerb without scuffing the alloy, hit it slowly & with the wheels turned head on to the kerb so the tryes takes the impact.

This is of absolutely NO comfort to me whats so ever, & I'm preying that when 'IT' happens, it's her who does it not me... little Miss Cocky!!! :?

Indeed that's the way to not hit the rims BUT. You can easely damage the internal wires of the tire and put a lot of extra stress to the steering and suspension.

I sadly joined the "kerbing club" on Thursday night :-(

While rushing to take my wife for our wedding anniversary meal, i caught the passenger side rear alloy while driving into a multi-storey car park, gutted :-(

Anyway after finally calming down, I made the dreaded mistake of blaming my wife, because had we not tied the knot some 12 years ago on 14th April 1999 then i wouldn't have been going for an anniversary meal in the first place. ;-)

The rest of the meal was spent with me thinking of getting my alloy repaired, while my wife didn't speak to me for about an hour ( nothing changes really ) ;-)

Now looking for a local company to get a refurb arranged !!

i think we must realise, that engine apart, the alloys and tyres are probably the cars most important asset and aesthetic. i remember the alloys on my previous car were £1500 and i would have had a coronary had i even slightly scuffed them ! so moral of the story is give those kerbs a wide berth !

I can't believe it but I've managed to curb my alloy already and I've only had the car 3 days!!!! It wasn't my fault though! It was either let the van on my side of the road take the side of my car off or move over and risk curbing my alloy! I hate stupid White van men!!!! I suppose it gives me an excuse to have them done black though!

I think I have met the same White van man, I was in right hand lane, going round a round-a-bout, when "white van man" decided the left hand lane wasnt wide enough for him, so moved over to straddle both lanes. My options (like you) was to allow his van to "modify" my nearside or move over. I took the second option and "kissed" the inside of the round-a-bout. White van man buggers off leaving me with BOTH (YES BOTH) offside wheels nicely kerbed :x  :x
