OK Picked up the car today and pretty happy overall with it. Brakes work decently and no squealing , all wheels refurbished , windscreen filled as it was a chip and not a crack. Both rear tyres replaced with brand new ones but unknown budget brand, front has dunlops on . So here it is at last.

Very nice RCZ R you have got yourself there and so pleased for you that they did the work as promised not many car sellers do what they say many promises to do this and that and when you pick up the car it's not being done and they still want you to take the car, good result......
Drive safe and stay lucky 🍀 and enjoy all the rubber neckers lol 😂

All I did was give it a quick wash as it got filthy driving the 85 miles back down the M1. Looks like the last owners polished it a lot ;)

I take it they only changed the brake pads and not the discs?

The budget tyres wouldn't stay on my car. They could be interesting for the handling on the R.

Hopefully it's a good car.

Before you end up with a fine the car isn't showing as taxed.

The tyres are ok for now since they are brand new, but I never by cheap tyres so once they wear down will buy premium tyres like I always do, also not a fan of Dunlop tyres as they were on my last car and they have serious design fault which cost me to replace them at 1/2 year intervals as they crack and burst on the inside tyre wall. SO tend to use Michelin, Eagle F1's or pirellis on my cars. What is the recommended tyres for this car?
They definitely changed the brake pads so may need some discs soon, also noticed Fish Bros has put the price up

The car is taxed as it was paid for at the garage as I have a receipt for it and I also checked on dvla which states it takes upto 5 days for it to register.

Nice car fella , to be honest with all the chat on this one I was beginning to think you were just a wind up merchant with no intention of actually buying one
But Looks a nice car so hope you enjoy it.
🤣 Im too old for that being almost 51 years old and a scientist. Its something I can easily afford , but it was a question of finding one.
Almost as bumpy as my 205 turbo technics which has coilovers and eccentric top mounts. Will test out the handling more when the weather is nicer as that is the ultimate test of a car and try and push it for the most important lift off oversteer manouvre. and catching it perfectly. As that is how its done in my 205 ;)

The back of the R can be snappy with quality tyres when cold. I wouldn't be running with cheap tyres as it could catch you out.

Dunlop Maxx tyres are good tyres. It's good tyres on the front you've got.

My car had Continental Sport contacts on the front when I bought it. Once worn I changed to Goodyear Asymmetric 2s to match the rears and look factory. They aren't as good as the Continentals. Now they they are quite worn they just don't have the same levels of grip.

Everyone is raving about the Michelin MP4S. Don't confuse with the MP4. The S matters. That's where I'm going next.

The joys of Brexit! Everything is getting bumped up in price. Another £90 makes them pricey discs.

It usually changes over fast. The issue of the V5 has been logged immediately.

I wonder if its worth splashing out a bit more and get the TAROX discs instead?
Kerr, Your right about cheap tyres hence I have never used cheap tyres on any of my cars as I believe its false economy especially if it causes an accident..
I normally go for wet tyres as its virtually never dry in the UK 🤣 (tyres with V groove patterns)

The Tarox discs look good, but I don't know how good they are. Speaking to a brake specialist near me he doesn't think Tarox are what they used to be. They also bumped up their prices last year.

Cheap tyres are my pet hate. The difference a quality set of tyres makes is huge. Even for normal drivers they are the difference between stopping and having an accident in many bumps.

I have had two sets of Accelera’s on mine which are classed as budget tyres and quite a few of owners I know run them too with no problems at all. And if you think about it a tyre has to be fit for purpose if manufacturers were selling potentially dangerous tyres there would be some hellish lawsuits going down!
If your on a track day and finding the limits then some tyres are obviously better than the rest but in day to day driving you really shouldn’t be finding the limit of the tyres and to some degree your better off with a tyre that lets you know before it let’s go rather than all or nothing.

I'm surprised to read that opinion.

Even in daily driving duties good quality tyres make a massive difference. There is a huge difference between good and bad tyres.

The tyres do meet requirements. You see the tests where modern cars slash highway code stopping distances by half. Braking efficiency and tyres have greatly improved over the years.

Looking at some of the results of the Accelera PH1 tyres the results are poor compared to a quality tyre. They are last in every test related to performance or handling.

From 100kph(62mph) in the wet Michelin PS4s take 46.3m meters to stop. The Accelera took 73.3m in the same test. 27m extra to stop which is around 6-7 car lengths. That's a crazy difference and easily the difference between stopping in an emergency, or having a big crash.

I've never scrimped on tyres. I don't see the point of buying nice cars and ruining them with cheap tyres. Equally even for normal cars the extra safety margin a good tyre makes is worth it too.

You should never have drastically different tyres on a car. It will make the handling imbalanced.

My R had "Comforser" tyres on it when I bought it. They are a cheap tyre. I found the grip OK for normal driving. The main issue was that I got a shudder through the steering wheel at any speed which really annoyed me. I was told it was the tyres. So a perfect excuse the ditch the cheap tyres. I got Conti Sport Contact 5's. The shudder pretty much disappeared and I now have the confidence to attack corners in the way the car was designed to do. Cornering is much more confidence inspiring because the grip is on another level. 👍

Yes premium tyres are reallly worthwhile, gives me an idea, maybe I should stick them budget tyres on the front and do burnouts so I have an excuse to buy some premium tyres 😂
