Hi, ok so my lovely 2013 hdi RCZ was sideswiped by a lorry last week - was in car but ok and not my fault. Insurers already mentioning write off tho damage appears minimal, and wing mirror went down the road with the lorry - car being picked up tomorrow to go for estimate - and car is drivable. Anyone had experience of this and how did it go ? Thanks for reading IMG_2777.jpeg

The cost of car repairs has gone through the roof. You'll probably find that the time they factor in repairs and the cost of a hire car they'll write your car off.

You do get the option of buying the car back if you think you can repair it on a budget. It'll still be logged as a write off.

Insurance companies offer market value for cars. I have a feeling you might not be happy with the amount they'll offer. Look out for similar cars and contest the value if you feel it's too low. Although they might not budge.

sorry to hear your bump mate, have been through this before, the insurer will probably write it off because a new bonnet and bumper will be very expensive to replace new, paint, fitting etc all +vat.
so if they write it off, they will offer you a figure, make sure you tell them you want to buy it back off them, which they should agree to, they may offer you a stupidly low figure to keep it.

then repair it yourself and bank a few quid, don’t forget it will be on the catagory S or N,

Some young cretin caved the hatch on wife's Fiat Ulysse Insurance deemed it a write off I argued with the assessor it was repairable he gave me a week to find all the bits so searched the breakers got all the parts ready to order they paid her £1200 I ordered all the parts & local lad did all the bodywork at cost price she got another 7 yrs out of it before it failed last MOT on rotten sills so don't give up if it drives its fixable

It doesn't seem like a very expensive repair, if you can get a front bumper at a reasonable price, even if it's a different colour it can be repainted.

The bonnet looks like it can be repaired and repainted, the damage to the aluminium seems minor.

You would also need to get a side mirror. From what I've read, the one for a DS3 is the same, although the wiring and the mirror adjustment motor may vary depending on whether or not it has position memory.

Well good news gang ! My car is repaired and back on my driveway 😁. Slight hiccup as first replacement bumper received from Peugeot arrived more broken than mine, next one on back order but received last week. Insurers provided me with a ‘similar’ courtesy car - Citroen C4 😂. So looking forward to driving the RCZ again ♥️
