Hi Help required please , two weeks after my last breakdown my 200 Thp has developed a massive misfire and was recovered home by the RAC again. Fault code is P 1062 variable valve lift system.Position regulation fault. The RAC guy reckons its a vvt solenoid problem. I've looked a various similar faults on this forum and elsewhere online but I can't find the location of these solenoids. I understand that they could be contaminated with oil residue and possibly cleaned and refitted, my car has just been serviced so the oil is good and level correct.
If I can locate them I will probably just replace them. Has anyone replaced these solenoids ?

Thanks for your prompt response and diagram, I have located the rear solenoid and can just about get to it by partially disconnecting the airbox and removing some pipework. The fwd one will have to wait as rain stops play.
Many thanks JR.

After checking the timing and replacing plugs/coil packs , I admitted defeat as still had an engine warning light after a couple of minutes at idle. The car drove fine with no misfire , just the engine light.
I found a BMW specialist that was open locally and he changed crank and cam sensors and checked the harnesses. But now a different code, running too lean.I sent the fuel pump away to be recondioned £150 and all now seems ok.
