Hi guys, I am posting this thread for anyone who may have the dreaded HPFP replacement needed (I believe it is code P0087 but not certain please ask someone who knows a bit better than me). I have recently had this done for a total of £235.00. This is much cheaper than the usual quotes you will get from garages which can be £700.00 plus. What I done was paid a mobile mechanic who charged me £40 per hour to take it out for me. I have attached the video below it was not complicated at all for anyone who knows their way around a car. Then sent it to be refurbished using the eBay service linked below. I sent it with tracked 24 and had it returned with special delivery before 1pm at an extra £5 cost. The service itself is done on the day of arrival and is sent back to you within 24 hours of delivery. Then I paid the mechanic £40 to put it back in for me. Now it may cost you a little more as the mechanic is a friend of a friend so you have to pay £60.00 an hour. But even still it is a significant saving. Since I had it done the car has been running like a dream with no EML. Power is restored and I could not be happier. I will keep this thread updated if the pumps fails again so we can see how good the recondition service is and how long it lasts. It was replaced at 103,350 miles. I am mainly posting this for anyone new as I am sure the veterans of the forum are aware of this already.

Cheers Bob

They are fiddly to get out but taking the battery off was a pain mainly because it has to come off!

Yes getting the battery housing back in was most fiddly for the mechanic. But it only took about 30-40 mins to get the pump off and about 30 mins to put it all back together again. Quite a few bits had to come out but he seems comfortable with it all.

I used Mike for the HPFP on my R. It has been in the car for 12-18 months with no issues.

He was easy and nice to deal with.

Yes he was great. Very clear and concise and knew his stuff. Pump looked immaculate once I got it back. Cannot fault him.

Hi all,

Had this issue over a month ago and cleared using the obd. Nothing since although i have noticed the car (156thp) eating the petrol. Would this be down to the same hpfp?

thanks for any info / reply

Yes I had this exact symptom when mine was bad. It was drinking like mad until eventually just began to lose power and basically not able to run at all.

On the way home from work the car enters limp mode, heater controls flashing on off, engine management light flashing but no engine fault or code to read. Had to drive in limp mode 2-3 mile home. Anyone have any ideas whats causing this? Engine has just been fully rebuilt at 30k.

strange that its showing no code though.

Further update.

codes now showing as :

P0562 system voltage low
P0087 fuel rail / system pressure too low

would that indicate a knackered battery too?

Battery issue is plausible especially during cold weather one pointer could be persistent eco mode & slow cranking from cold & ancillaries going haywire
P0562 low voltage causing low fuel pressure due to circuit issues its best to do or get a voltage drop test done like fuse box checks & on the power & ground first
If its pump failing then a fuel trims test is the holy grail to make certain its fuel pressure

****UPDATE!!!!! Fat lot of use he was. Turned up, turned the key said battery is fine otherwise it wouldn't have started. Whirring noise coming from near the fuel tank and he reckons its summat fuel related?

Sorry I am not technical enough to comment exactly what it is. I had random issue codes come up when my HPFP was failing. But once I had it replaced everything was fine. Pedro is much more knowledgeable so I would speak with him when you have some more information. My car went into limp mode and would lose power randomly when driving it. Also drank petrol and the fan would stay on once I parked and start at full speed with cold engine. If this helps at all.

Thanks for the reply. I have since contacted the guy recommended on here via ebay and removed the hpfp following the guide that someone had posted too. (Many thanks!!!) Due to send it away for refurb. Will post an update once it returns.

I removed it and reinstalled myself.

Total cost €110, €90 that the guy, here in spain, who fixes them charged me, and €20 for transports, the car was stopped for about 10 days.

Removing the battery is no problem, you disconnect the positive, move the connections block to the right, swing and remove the cover as if it were a hood and you can now disconnect the negative and remove the lower fixing.
