Hi,
I am waiting for my Phase 1 Opal White To be ready for me to collect this week as they are primping her for me. I first saw a Z when they were launched and nearly crashed the car craning my neck.....

Love this forum, I have been lurking for a couple of weeks gaining lots of info.

I would value your opinion on a couple of mods I want to make, but not sure of. The car is a HDi as I do 50 miles to work and back per day so gone for the sensible option, lol!

Firstly, I would like a better exhaust note, and was looking on RCZ Performance's excellent site, which is like looking in a toy shop! I was thinking of the Ruffer back box which utilises the existing tail pipes. Would that make a better enough pleasing sound, particularly as I've bought an oil burner?

Also, I was originally going to change the wheels (or have them repainted) black, but everywhere I look there seems to be white or brightly coloured cars complete with black wheels, and we've got a white Sirocco with black wheels in the street! If I had the calipers done in red, would that be sufficient contrast to the existing wheels, which I know are silver, but as I haven't seen the car yet, just driven a HDi I can't tell you which type they are!

Lastly, I want more power, and gave got my pea brain confused with the best way to increase it! Either remap,or chip it!

Sorry for all the questions! Will post pictures when I take ownership.

Regards
Sharon

Welcome :)

I cant help you with that particular exhaust. I have one by ulter sport. It doesnt change the note when idle or driving, but there is a very quiet burble when going about 2-3mph lol. Ive heard the ruffer on a petrol and it sounds very nice.

Im looking to get a chip for mine soon. Ive never chipped or had a remap before so im just going with the cheaper option lol.

There are a lot of cars with black wheels. There are also a lot of cars with red calipers. When it comes down to it, its all personal preference. I have black wheels, but im starting to feel like a change and want silver wheels lol.

Hi Sharon :text-welcomewave: you could always go down the line of Black Onyx Solstice like on mine, then you have the black wheels, but still some silver, a bit different to the standard Black wheels.

Can't really help with your other questions, not really my area of expertise, in fact, I'm still trying to find out what my area of expertise is :eusa-think:

Love the black onyx solstice wheels! They are just that bit different!

Hopefully I will pick her up tomorrow or Thursday.

Another mod I'm definately going to do is the black mesh grill, love that look, although I realise opinion is divided.

Anybody else from the N Wales/Chester area?

Thank you.

Well, having had my Z for just over a week, I love every last curve of it! I've nicknamed her KK or Kim Kardasian on account of her large derrière!

My work colleagues have mithered me for Britain this week to look at her and apart from one, who informed me that the back window would be a bitch to remove in an RTC (cheers for that) they love her.

The mods I have decided on are the Ruffer back box (providing it gives me a decent "burble"), the Zunsport black mesh grille and red brake calipers. I'm going to keep the original alloys as I quite like them. I just need to sell the Street Ka I have tucked away in the garage, yes I know! :? Then I shall be parting with a few sheets through RCZ performance.

The Ruffer is definitely the best of the bunch when it comes to a better sounding exhaust, although the others we sell are pretty go0d as well or we would not sell them ;)

We have the Zunsport Grille on our car and it definitely makes the car different than the others, and so yes it is a great upgrade too.

We look forward to your order.

Give me a couple of weeks, as now the sun is out, I can shift the StreetKa particularly as it has bad boy black alloys!

I'm loving the look of your car, where you have wrapped the front valance, so effectively the Peugeot "mouth" disappears. Makes the Z look a bit more aggressive!

Hi Sharon,

I'm sort of local to you in Nantwich. I've had my Black HDI for just over a year now and you definitely bought the best engined Z for both reliability and MPG. I do just under 1000 miles a week in mine travelling from Nantwich to the far side of Birmingham every day. I average about 54 mpg up and down the dreaded M6 arrrrrrgh.

Anyway my answers to your questions:-

I have the Ruffer back box and quad exhaust bought from Steve (RCZ Performance) it makes absolutely no difference to the exhaust note on the HDI so please don't waste your money if that's what you want it for. It's also a pig to fit. That said it does look good ......

If you want a better exhaust note on the HDI I believe you need to buy the complete system which gets rid of the catalytic converter and middle box. So unless your going to do that I would suggest you just go for the Feline system that Peugeot designed for the car.

Mine is the GT and it had silver wheels originally but I had them painted gloss black which were pretty cool......

I also painted my Calipers red and cleaned up the rusty brake discs at the same time. From this ......

To this ......

However I got a bit bored with the black and when I put new tyres on a couple of months ago I had them powder coated. They are now done with a black base coat and a dusting of metal flake silver. Glitter and shine really well in the sun, not too bling but just about right I think ......

I also put 15mm wheel spacers on the rear which brings the wheels out nicely, just to the rear wing. I think they make it look even wider and more balanced with the quads from the rear .......

Hope some of that helps.

Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim,

Stunning car!

Thanks for taking the time to reply, that's given me food for thought, particularly about the exhaust.

The red calipers look great and I agree about the discs, mine are looking a bit rusty which detracts from the wheels.

First job me thinks are calipers and black Zunsport grille and then I will look at exhaust options.

Hi Jim,

You do have a good looking car and I am sure I have seen it in the flesh as my head office is in Winsford. I am taking delivery next weekend of surprise Z for my wife and was thinking if the Ruffer quad as does look good. When you say "it was a pig to fit" did you do this yourself or local exhaust centre ? I will be looking for local garage to do mine if this is the route I go. Any advice re which is best quad for HDi model would be welcomed.

Cheers

Get the car on a lift and the install is straight-forward for any of the exhaust systems we sell:

I fully endorse the mesh grille. This is mine on my old RCZ, just makes the whole front end look more poised and aggressive.

Hi Norman,

I put details of how I fit mine in this thread .....

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=7211&p=87254#p87254

When I had fit it, it was too low and the only way to get the tail pipes higher was to cut the rear bulkhead under the car which runs down in front of the spare wheel well. It's not difficult and not a big issue. I did this on mine and got them much higher than in the photo in the above thread. I fit it myself with the aid of a friend who runs a company called European Car Specialists in Burton on Trent. As Steve (RCZ Performance) has said you really do need the car up on a ramp. If you wanted to,fit it yourself I believe you can hire them now at places like kwik fit etc for so much per hour. You also need to replace the clamp that is supplied with the Ruffer with a jubilee type one, that fits above the rear torsion bar as it hits the bar every time you go over a bump no matter which angle you fit it and gives a horrible clunk in the car.

Also the right hand tail pipe is hung on a metal bracket that will swing and clunk on the spare wheel well. I over came this by tie wraping a rubber exhaust hanger to the back on the metal hanger the tail pipe hangs on (if that makes sense)

As for which one to get for the HDI. Unless you are going to go for the complete Ruffer system I would suggest going for the Feline tail pipes they were designed for the car by Peugeot. You should be able to pick a new one up for around £300. The ruffer will cost you £700+ plus fitting. The back box only which is on mine makes no difference to the exhaust sound and no power gains. Like I said you'll need the fully system for that.

Hope some of that helps

Thanks for the reply Jim and for the link to your fitting (very good detail). I am aware from looking at other posts on here that the Zunsport quad was the original system via Peugeot feline pack and is there for perhaps cosmetics only ad this is all I am really looking for so perhaps will go for this one. Perhaps Steve from RCZ can let me know if he has these in stock available for collection or which ones he has available ? Also want to get new rear valance as believe I have to cut the original so suggestions welcome on this too please.

I will also be painting clippers red and freshening up the discs as is common practice for me with any of the cars I have bought in the past :D

Other mods planned and sure will post these later.

Ultimately with a diesel you do need to replace more than just the back box for a significant sound enhancement when compared to the petrol version in which a back box does the job. This is primarily because instead of a catalytic converter found on the petrol version which can be removed or replaced with an aftermarket unit for even better sound and performance gains, the diesel has a DPF/FAP which is not so easily removed or upgraded due to it's function with the diesel and this unit reduces the sound drastically. We do sell more than just back box systems for the diesel but nothing that eliminates the DPF/FAP. Checkout Bastuck:

http://shop.rczperformance.com/category.sc?categoryId=88

Yes the Zunsport is the original quad-tip offering from Peugeot which we also sell. Yes it is a cosmetic change but does connect to the factory system to send exhaust to both sides:

http://shop.rczperformance.com/product.sc?productId=26&categoryId=84

As for the grille, we have these ready to ship:

http://shop.rczperformance.com/product.sc?productId=104

If you buy the Zunsport exhaust you will get a template to cut the right-side of the rear valance. Alternatively you can replace the entire rear valance or add on to it:

Let us know if you have any further questions.
