Just a heads up for all you drone pilots out there. From 30.11.19 it was illegal to fly any drone over 250g in the UK until you have registered as a drone operator & paid a £9 fee.

You also have to take and pass an online test. The test consists of 20 multiple choice questions. If you pass, you are then issued a Flyer ID and an operator ID. You then have to display your operator ID as a sticker on any drone Over 250g that you fly.
your flyer ID is valid for 3 years so you don’t have to re-take the test until then. The operator ID has to be renewed annually at a cost of (currently) £9

You also get a CAA certificate (of sorts) in the form of an email or downloaded from the website, which you have to have with you whenever you are flying your drone, and be prepared to produce it to the police if requested.

So this regulation applies to any drone sized DJI Mavic Air or heavier. So thats all the Mavic series except for the new Mavic Mini, which DJI have produced especially to get round this new regulation, it’s just under 250g.

The penalty if caught flying a drone without registering, or not displaying the operator ID on the drone ranges from a hefty fine to imprisonment 😱
