"desbrozar" roughly translates to clear, and in particular to remove unwanted growth of weeds, etc.
So our man has been attacking the finca with our desbrozadora, which is a brush cutter, a serious strimmer.
It is a quality bit of kit, being a Honda four stroke, so very quiet and efficient.
The sharp end has numerous options, so he swaps a reel of cord for a blade, two or three cutting edges, or a circular saw for stubborn saplings.
He wears the harness and full protective clothing which, although a tad warm, fends off flying stones, twigs, dust, etc., and with visor down emulates Darth Vader.
He gets a beer every couple of hours, which helps.
The spring rising of greenery is all very pretty, but soon becomes knee high and progress around the land is impeded, and it chokes the crops.
A hectare, on eight levels of, in places, narrow terraces, and with over a hundred trees, does not lend itself to access by large agricultural machinery.
Our chap, swinging a desbrozadora rhythmically and neatly between the trees and vines, can tidy up a hectare in under twenty man-hours.
We now have something approaching parkland, and good to see and walk around.
Brilliant!
A few shots after the clean:
