Now here's something not many of you might know, unless you are in Spain in winter.
Chains are a sensible accessory to carry.
Very few here (I know of nobody) buy and fit winter tyres.
But, if there is snow forecast or already fallen and not cleared, on the passes, you are likely to be stopped and challenged by Trafico (road cops) to check you are carrying chains and know how to fit them.
Even on the Autovias, there may be stretches at altitude not pristine!
We got sets for our Mondeo and then for the 407 and its successor the 5008.
As we were heading north for crimble, we popped into our Pug man for some chains for the RCZ.
He consulted Peugeot tech support and they said "No".
LGN has nineteen inchers and the optional extra chains require more clearance than the RCZ has with those wheels/tyres.
However, to comply with the cops' requirements, there are the textile covers, so we went for them, even though at over seventy euros seemed expensive for what looked like shower caps; the Peugeot stickers no doubt affect the price.
Apparently, they are kinder on the tyres, but wear out much quicker than chains, so where there is no snow, they should be removed and put on again as soon as snow encountered.
Sounds a right faff!
But, our experience to date here (over thirteen years) has been like carrying a brolly - it don't rain unless you leave it behind!
And, true to form, there was no sign of the white stuff on our trip to Galicia and back.
