Beginning to think that this car is cursed!!
I went to go for a drive on the weekend to find my passenger wing mirror hanging off.
I have dismantled the exterior parts and it appears as if the support base has disconnected although I can’t quite figure out how it connected

the mirrors have not folded since I have had the car for whatever reason so I am not fussed about that feature working. Do you think I could epoxy these two parts together?

There appears to be a spring in the column which has ‘released’. I really cannot figure out how these two pieces connected together.

FYI The C5 Saloon wing mirror looks very similar. I wonder if they are the same?

Thanks Pedro. Considering the mirrors were not folding anyway I am not too concerned to replace fully. Perhaps there is a fix I can apply for now atleast.

I am a bit more clear on the cause of the issue now.
The end of the center column that is surrounded by a spring has snapped off. It looks like the entire wing mirror is relying on this piece of plastic to secure it to the mount on the door. Once this cracks the only thing holding it on are the cables.
I have to say I have been very unimpressed with the build quality of this car!

I’ve been working on getting mine fixed as suffered the same issue. I actually tried bonding the broken shaft using epoxy but it wouldn’t hold Once I put it back together again 😔

I am going to try some ABS glue on the bayonet shaft and clamping it overnight and see if it sets strong enough

Did you try Araldite?

I am assuming this is ABS plastic which I have some special glue for

Not for ABS plastic from what I understand, although it was going to be my next attempt if this one fails.

anyone know what this connector powers?
I found it disconnected when I disassembled the wing mirror. Perhaps it is why my mirrors don’t fold, perhaps there was an issue I in the past and the garage just disconnected them.

nope ABS glue wasnt strong enough :(
The spring puts a hell of a lot of pressure on this plastic tube, I am surprised these are not a more common failure

Yeah I tried epoxy to bond mine and had the same issue. The spring just pulls it apart even after letting it cure for a whole day. 😔

What's the fix for this then lads? Plastic weld? Surely there is something that can be used to bond it back and have it back to full strength & rigidity?

Curious to know this not just for this particular situation but for knowing in general if this can be done...

I’m not convinced a plastic weld would fix it either to be honest.
I would say that you have two options:
Replacement
the ‘support base’ is £330 from Peugeot.
Or I hear a new wing mirror is £450.
Second hand on eBay or breaker range from £150 - 350 based on condition and whether the electrics are working (doesn’t matter if you are only replacing the bayonet shaft.
Bodge job
Drill some screws securing it in place, however this would mean no folding mirrors, and would probably result in more damage if your wing was clipped again in the future.

Gotta say it all seems very expensive for a small hollow tube of plastic!
considering my mirrors weren’t folding anyway I am considering going the bodge route,at least until I can source replacements for both mirrors which fold.

When I removed my mirror to see what was going on, I found the previous owner had put 3 screws in it around side to hold it in place. I’ve managed to source a complete unit (in the wrong colour) on eBay for £299. Which side do you need again? I think he still has the o/s still

its the offside, but I have a breaker on ebay who will take £150, in the wrong colour of course, but then I only really need the bayonet. Still seems damn expensive!

I can confirm that this connector is for the folding mechanism. I opened up the drivers side wing mirror which also had the connector disconnected, and connected it. The wing mirror is now folding! No idea why the previous owner would have disconnected it! it needs a bit of white grease sprayed into the mechanism as its a bit slow, but thats probably because it hasnt moved in while.
