Hi all, I’m writing in here because I’ve had such amazing help in here in the past.

I wanted to query how often on average are people having to top up their oil on their RCZ 1.6.

My car has been diagnosed with a rocker gasket leak and maybe a sump pan leak. (Not sure if the sump pan oil is coming from the area of the rocker seal and dripping down)
I’ve had my RCZ 4 years and ever since I’ve had it, I’ve had to frequently top up the oil. So I’m not quite sure what the norm would be. I guess I’m trying to figure out if I’ve always had a leak and I just accepted it as the norm for these cars or do they standardly burn through a lot of oil?
Any help would be appreciated

Excluding any oil leakage & excessive high mileages the usual oil consumption for these engines is 1ltre per every 5000 klm the oil level should be checked periodically say every fortnight or monthly depending on use of the car the benchmark is always to keep the level topped up to max that way any losses can be easily spotted from the dip[stick & a overall complete engine inspection

Any smoking from exhaust after being left to tick over for a while or after being stood at traffic lights? A common issue is valve stem oil seals letting oil by this would lead to excessive oil consumption.

Only white smoke at traffic lights that I can notice. I’ll pay more attention when I’m next out and see

Valve stem seals must be replaced. But that is only a half solution. Piston rings should be replaced as well.

I've been there, white smoke at traffic lights and in traffic. Replaced the valve stem seals and it only halved the oil consumption. Then replaced the piston rings, head refurb and it has no oil consumption. It only cost me around 1500EUR for everything and the engine is now perfect for another 100k km.

When I first bought mine I had an oil leak at the back of the engine. It was dripping off the sump but the cause was much higher up. I bought an endescope camera to attach to my phone only about a tenner on Ebay and poked it around the top rear of the engine and it looked a right mess. I had three leaks! One was the Tensioner but the worst one was the VVT soleniod that sits next to the Tensioner. The other lesser leak was the Rocker Cover gasket. During the "You Must Stay At Home" period I replaced all the lot. Parts were not easy to get due to Covid but I eventually got them all. So have look if you can see whats leaking before you pay someone to do it or start buying parts. Your topping it up because your oil is leaking out. Since Ive fixed mine its dry all the time now and just top up a little twice a year but always keep an eye on the dip stick anyway.

Recommendation is around 60.000Klms a walnut blasting of the valve chambers is due as oil bypasses the seals & valves if there not sealing properly
