Hi, as newbie RCZ owner who has just hit a snag, I wonder if anyone can help?

Last weekend my 2012 RCZ1.6 200THP with only 40k on the clock suddenly had the EML light come on and juddering on acceleration.

The RAC came out and put a new coil in cylinder 1 but this didn't solve the problem, so they towed me to a main dealer.

The main dealer said the diagnostic code was P0351, a misfire on cylinder 1. They swapped the coils for 1 and 4 and found that the misfire moved to coil 4.

So they are suggesting replacing all 4 coils and sparkplugs, at a cost of £420, and then see if that solves the issue, and if not, then clearly the bill is going to climb. So i'm thinking of replacing the coils and sparks myself for half the cost, elsewhere.

Other symptoms were the fan goes like crazy when you turn off the engine. I also may have overfilled the oil recently!

(I'm not a car specialist by any means, and just love my RCZ, but don't have an endless supply of cash to keep throwing at the problem in the hope that eventually it'll be fixed. I'm surprised that the main dealer can't find the root of the problem and then quote me the amount to fix it.)

Any help or advice VERY gratefully received.
Thanks

On the Prince Engines Unfortunately its strongly advised you change all 4 plugs or coil packs together mainly due to the fact if one is failing the others won't be too far behind so better to be safe than sorry as for the fan the ECU has detected a combustion fault which may interfere with the wrong Engine Temperature readings being sent to the ECU thus the fan can be triggered to save overheating etc
Coil packs can be had for around £20-25 each depending on which sort you choose but I would bite the bullet & install the Bosch ones I fitted NGK plugs In my 200 with no issues & they perform very well regarding overfilling the oil level its not advisable as it causes all sorts of issues which can harm the functionality of the Engine with excessive Oil being burnt & fouling the plugs etc

Thank you for the advice, I shall proceed as you stated!
Much appreciated

Hi Double Bubble and Pedro,
whilst on the subject of juddering, is this when accelerating on a cold engine? It's as if the ECU can't make up it's mind how I am going to drive by selecting different mixtures of petrol/air. I am inclined to think it's the timing chain when cold but it could also be plugs and coils. What do you think?
cheers

Hi Stig,
The coils and plugs fixed my juddering problem. But they did say at Peugeot that it is was a 'Stage One Fix' meaning that if that didn't fix it, they would have to look at other possible causes. As if I am a bottomless pit of cash :)
Fortunatley it fixed it.

For £420 did you get a free weekend away with the sales manager's wife? 😆
Regrettably not. In fact the only benefit in paying over twice the cost if I'd replaced the coils and sparks elsewhere, was that they corrected the time on the clock and gave the car a wash. The most expensive wash my car has ever had.

The Peugeot dealer didn't wash my RCZ after they'd lifted a grand out of my wallet for changing the timing gear!

I just took mine in for its mot. It was pristine when it went in. Got it back & they’d tested the washers & God knows what else, it had water marks all over it. Good job I enjoy washing it 😁

Hold onto your hat Kidder as mine juddered on acceleration when only warming up & my HP Fuel Pump (Generic problem) was dying so fingers crossed its Possibly a cheapish fix Cosmetic Mechanical fault if it occurs again but hopefully all will be OK 👍

Btw. Had all for coils & plugs replaced at an indie in December using Oem parts, can’t remember the exact figure, but I think it was @ £200 ish. I think when they said stage 1, they meant if that didn’t work it would be a HPFP which is a bit more expensive. Just had mine replaced under extended warranty.
