  • Well just had car fully serviced and replaced complete timing chain kit as had very light rattle on cold start. Car now on 20150 miles. On cold start i can still hear a little bit of a rattle but much improved so a little disappointed as expected it to be completed silent, any thoughts

I always wait until the cold start finishes then the oil pressure has filled the top end before driving off as these engines don't like to run cold in any weather ;)

I always warm the engine up 5 minutes before driving if it’s still not at operational temp do push the engine till it.....

Hope I'm not too late with this. I had a ticking/rattling noise after the timing belt was changed. The garage said it was the electronic tensioner for the auxiliary belt apparently and a new one cured it. the mechanic had had the same issue with a Mini Cooper which has the same engine apparently!
