Has to be a leak than, I've done custom intake with silicone hose and K&N filter at the end, the hoses I disassembled including the air box where the filter seats where in really bad shape.
if you don't wanna do the K&N setup you can just grab the silicone hose by MTC...

That should be the best idea. If not a head gasket leak, try engine flush additive - liqui molly engine flush and fresh oil like Shell Helix Ultra 5W30.
This engines are know to show up signs of that if driven short distances, before doing any work on the car do a longer drive on the highway see what happens.

Check this video done on MINI same part and location, you need the same gaskets but double check this may not be the same part numbers as on the video for the THP156.
